Scott J. Denardo, M.D., with FirstHealth Cardiology, is now offering appointments in Asheboro.

A seasoned interventional cardiologist, Dr. Denardo returned to the Sandhills area in 2017 after spending 10 years pursuing research goals at the University of Florida and Duke University.

“Having lived in the Sandhills region for a majority of my adult life, I have fond memories of time spent in the Asheboro community with my family,” Dr. Denardo says. “I look forward to learning more about Asheboro, getting involved in the community and most importantly, caring for the residents of the community.”

In addition to seeing patients at his Troy office, Dr. Denardo will see patients at 610 N. Fayetteville Street, Suite 202 (Hodges Family Practice) in Asheboro on Wednesdays beginning December 13.

“It is exciting to see how Asheboro has blossomed from a small farming community into an incredibly sophisticated, multi-faceted community with much to offer,” Dr. Denardo says. “I am especially excited about being close to the North Carolina Zoo. I have many fond memories of visiting with our children when they were young. Hopefully my time in Asheboro will allow me the capability to visit the zoo and re-embrace all they have to offer.”

Dr. Denardo will provide cardiovascular consultations in his Randolph County location. Non-invasive cardiovascular studies beyond electrocardiograms, such as echocardiograms and stress tests (with and without nuclear imaging), will be performed at Dr. Denardo’s office in Troy so that he can supervise the studies and review results immediately with the patient. Invasive and interventional procedures, including angioplasty and stent placement, will be performed by Dr. Denardo in Reid Heart Center at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

“FirstHealth continues to expand its services further into Randolph County,” says John F. Krahnert, M.D., chief medical officer of FirstHealth of the Carolinas. “We are excited that Dr. Denardo will be the first cardiologist to bring our quality cardiology services to the county. Our goal is to provide locals with the opportunity to experience FirstHealth’s award – winning care.”

A native of California, Dr. Denardo received a double-major B.A. in physics and applied mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley and his M.D. from the University of California at San Francisco.

He completed his internship and residency at UCLA and a fellowship in general cardiology at the University of California at San Francisco before completing a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, California.

Dr. Denardo spent 13+ years with the cardiology program at Pinehurst Medical Clinic and provided interventional services at Moore Regional Hospital before joining the teaching and research faculty with the University of Florida. In 2010, he joined the teaching and research faculty at Duke University Medical Center, providing cardiovascular care and student mentoring services with the Duke Cardiology program at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

He has also contributed research papers on various topics related to general and interventional cardiology to numerous medical journals.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and the American College of Physicians, Dr. Denardo is also a founding member of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography and a member of the American Medical Association.
