FirstHealth Announces September 2018 DAISY Award Winner

ROCKINGHAM – Tarrah Radford, R.N., has been recognized as the September 2018 DAISY Award Winner for FirstHealth of the Carolinas.

Radford is a nurse at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Rockingham (MRH – Richmond) and currently works on the Medical/Surgical/Pediatrics unit. She was nominated by a patient who, in the nomination, said, “Tarrah may not have thought she did much, but she treated me like a person she did not do her job for the praise and glory of others, she did it because of the type of human being she is.  I hope this award exemplifies the type of person and nurse that she is because this is truly her calling in life and we could use more people like her.  I hope this is a big enough thank you to Tarrah.”

“We are extremely excited that Tarrah was honored as the September DAISY Award winner by FirstHealth,” says Allison Duckworth, R.N., nursing executive for MRH – Richmond. “She is an exceptional nurse, extremely compassionate and treats all patients like family. I believe this recognition from the patient speaks to all of those qualities Tarrah has, and then some.”

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was established by the Daisy Foundation, a not-for-profit, based in Glen Ellen, Calif. The foundation was started by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Barnes and his family received from nurses inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patients’ families. Today, there are more than 2,800 health care facilities in all 50 states and 17 other countries honoring their nurses with the DAISY Award.

FirstHealth of the Carolinas, which includes Moore Regional Hospital, Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond, Moore Regional Hospital – Hoke and Montgomery Memorial Hospital, recognizes an extraordinary nurse each month, and has since 2014.
