Moore County Extension Announces Photo Contest

The North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Moore County will sponsor a photography contest to showcase the diversity of Moore County’s rich agricultural heritage. Photos selected from the contest will be placed on permanent display throughout the Moore County Agricultural building in Carthage.

“The display will pay tribute to the diversity of agriculture, horticulture, and rural scenes in the county and enhance the Agricultural Center’s interior,” says Deborah McGiffin, director of the Moore County Extension office. “This contest offers another way for us to connect our community and to the resources we enjoy.”

Professional and amateur photographers may submit unlimited high-quality digital images of agricultural activities and scenes. Images with a minimum of 300 dpi may be submitted in color, black and white or sepia tones, in a JPG format. Photos enhanced with heavy artistic filters will not be accepted.

The Cooperative Extension will enlarge photos select for display in sizes ranging from 18 X 24 inches to 36 X 48 inches. Single images, as well as triple image photomurals, are acceptable. Some photos will be used in materials to market Cooperative Extension programs, and on its website or social media pages. Any images with children under age 18 require a parental waiver form.

Photographic subjects may include any of the following: active farm operations, agricultural landscapes, agricultural products, farm machinery in action, farmworkers, livestock, horticulture, forestry, farmers markets, food processing, beekeeping, gardening and landscaping, and other agricultural-related scenes. All photos must highlight Moore County subjects, but the photographer does not need to be a county resident.

Contest submission and photo release forms and instructions for uploading digital photo files for the contest are available by contacting Brandi Carter at 910-947-3188. Entries will be accepted from September 15 through October 31, 2019.

A committee comprised of representatives from Moore County Cooperative Extension, Farm Bureau, Master Gardeners, community business representatives, and the county government will make the final photography selections. Selected photographers will be honored at during Farm City Week scheduled for November 18-22.

All photos selected for display in the Agricultural Center will include signage identifying the photographer and a description of the photograph that is submitted by the photographer. The county will not identify any image location by address but may list names of farms or businesses.
