Sandhills Center Getting New Headquarters

BY MAGGIE BEAMGUARD, Insider Editor

New corporate headquarters for the Sandhills Center are in the works for Seven Lakes.

Demolition of a Sandhills Center-owned building at 1100 Seven Lakes Drive, across from the Food Lion, took place in early spring to make way for the new construction.

The space in front of the current corporate headquarters at 1120 Seven Lakes Drive faced impacts from right of way acquisition by the NC Department of Transportation for the widening of 211 and associated changes to Seven Lakes Drive, prompting this project.

According to Anne Kimball, director of community relations, communications and training with the Sandhills Center, a contract has been executed to construct the new facility.

“This new facility, at roughly 8,000 square feet, will allow for additional office space for executive leadership and a large meeting/training room,” Kimball said. “Construction is scheduled to be completed in early 2023.”

Architectural services for the new project were provided by TFF Architects and Planners based in Greensboro. The principal architect for the project was Steve Freyaldenhoven. The contractor for the project is Central Builders Inc. of Mebane.

“The design will complement the Grant Street building’s design,” says Kimball.

The Grant Street building was constructed in 2017 and contains offices for staff working in care coordination, finance, information technology, community relations, provider network and the 1-800 24/7/365 call center. Sandhills Center has additional offices in Guilford, Harnett, Lee and Randolph counties.

The Sandhills Center has been part of the fabric of the Seven Lakes community since the 1970s. The Sandhills Center is what’s known as a  Local Management Entity and a Medicaid-funded managed care organization that acts as an agent of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

The Sandhills Center provides access to publicly funded mental health, substance use disorder and intellectual/developmental disabilities services for the residents of Anson, Davidson, Guilford, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Richmond and Rockingham counties.
