Staff Report

Update: *At 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Spectrum technicians on the ground at the intersection of Morganton and Brucewood Road in Southern Pines told The Pilot they expect service across the area to be restored by 7:00 p.m.

When asked the cause of the outage, they said, “We don’t know, we just got here, and it was on the ground, destroyed.”

*Moore County Public Safety announced it is aware of a Charter Spectrum service outage that may affect residents’ ability to contact emergency services. They added that Charter Spectrum is working to resolve the issue, and that if you are unable to reach 911, go to the nearest fire department for assistance.

Starting Saturday, reports of extensive Spectrum Internet outages began rolling out across Moore County.

According to a Spectrum representative, the outage is due to “malicious vandalism,” and there is currently no estimate for the length of time required for repair.

As it currently stands, affected areas include, but are not limited to, Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Foxfire, Seven Lakes North and South and Seven Lakes West.

Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Andy Conway, though, said the county’s dispatch is not currently tracking any active calls regarding Spectrum.

This is a developing story.
