There are many opportunities in Seven Lakes and around Moore County to honor veterans of the armed forces.
Annual Southern Pines Veterans Parade
The annual parade in celebration of veterans and their families takes place on Saturday, Nov. 8 in downtown Southern Pines on Broad Street. The opening ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. with the National Anthem and a parachute demonstration followed by a flyover of skilled pilots.
Veterans Day Ceremony
The Moore County Veterans Memorial Park, located at 1020 Carriage Oaks Drive Carthage NC will host a Veterans Day Ceremony at noon on Nov. 8 celebrating all Moore County Veterans. The event is open to the public and this year’s speech will be presented by Roland Gilliam
Seven Lakes Veterans Parade
A parade honoring veterans will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 in the Seven Lakes business district. A post-parade celebration will be held at 3 p.m. at Sandhills Winery. Veterans will be offered free beer. There will be food trucks, the Grey Abbey Band, and special guests. Names from the Seven Lakes Wall of Honor will be read.
Red Whites & Brews Wine Walk
Celebrate Veterans Weekend in the Village of Pinehurst from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8. With a patriotic twist. This progressive food and wine sampling event happening during Vet Fest lets you sip, sample, stroll and shop through the Village. A dozen boutique shops will stay open late, offering chef-prepared, fall inspired tapas paired with sips of red or white wine and a few craft brew options. Field of Honor Ceremony
The Vietnam Veterans of America, Moore County Chapter 966 invites the community to the annual Field of Honor ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. at the West End Fire Station at the corner of N.C. 211 and N.C. 73. The Field of Honor Ceremony is for those veterans living and who have passed and includes the service of our War Dogs. The displayed flags are dedicated to individual veterans whose names will be read aloud. A ship’s bell will ring at the reading of the names of those deceased. Arrive early and bring lawn chairs.
Veterans Day Ceremony
Join PinesFunerals at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 1105 Morganton Road, Southern Pines for a Veterans Day Ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. Highlights include a memorial prayer, keynote by Sgt. Major Burt Giedzinski (Ret.), presentation of colors by Pinecrest ROTC, reading of veterans’ names, Taps, and a memorial gift presentation.
Veterans Day Service
The Sandhills Chapter of the Military Officer’s Association of America (MOAA) will conduct its annual Veterans Day Service at the Community Presbyterian Church (125 Everette Road, Pinehurst) at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
