Each year when the Seven Lakes Garden Club develops the program for the year, it includes some sort of craft project. Sometimes the craft has been simple and, sometimes, not so simple.
The club has enjoyed the crafty mind of Board Member Lucia Skelton. When Skelton presents her ideas, everyone’s interest is piqued.
Club members love gardens, gardening and being creative. They look forward to these projects. This year was no exception as members turned wine bottles into luminaries.
Participants brought an empty wine bottle and an inspiration piece. Inspiration pieces included greeting cards, napkins, wrapping paper and all sorts of delights.
The garden club provided a fairy light cork and all the materials needed to turn an empty wine bottle into a sparkling star of wonder.
The themes chosen by members varied from holidays to everyday. The colors of the bottles ranged from clear to dark blue and from green to shades of amber.
The process proved a little messy, but simple. The first step was to shape an inspiration piece to fit the bottle. Then a layer of Modge Podge was slathered on top of the image. Hair dryers buzzed around the hall while everyone dried the glue. A second layer of glue was added along with additional elements such as glitter, ribbons and ornaments to accent the themes of the bottles.
Once the bottles were finished and dry, the fairy light corks were inserted. The switches were flipped on to many “oohs and ahhs.”
There were enough supplies for participants to purchase additional lights and make another. The room was filled with laughter and chatter. The once-empty wine bottles left the building sparkling with good cheer and inspiration.
Skelton is already talking with members about her ideas for next year. The club thanks Skelton for her dedication to making this event a fun fellowship and learning experience.
