Landowners in Seven Lakes North and South have eight candidates from which to choose for three open seats on the communities’ joint board of directors.

Members in good standing, with no outstanding fines, fees or unpaid dues are eligible to run.

The board has seven directors serving two-year terms. Landowners will receive ballots in February by mail. The newly elected officers will be announced and welcomed at the SLLA annual meeting, which takes place the last weekend of March.

Residents can return their ballots by mail or by dropping them off in the SLLA office.

All candidates were invited by the Seven Lakes Insider to submit profiles, including candidate statements of under 100 words. Candidates also supplied biographical statements to be circulated to the Seven Lakes North and South community.

This unofficial forum supplements the election processes. The candidates’ submitted statements were edited only for length and clarity.

June Brokos

Residency

We purchased our home in January 2020, as we wanted to live in this beautiful resort community.  We loved the rural and natural beauty of Seven Lakes.

Background

I work remotely for a D.C.-based consulting firm as Director of Talent Acquisition.

Community Service

I’ve supported the SLLA Board through research on Holly Hills development and spoken before the Moore County Council on issues affecting our golf course. I’ve studied potential city‑status options for Seven Lakes, served on the STR and Security committees, and taught Early Bird Water Aerobics. I’m active at my church, Grace Carthage, leading Drive‑Thru Prayer, and I host community gatherings that strengthen and encourage women. Author of “Pages of Grace.”

Candidate statement

I care deeply about my home investment and the future of the Seven Lakes community. Since purchasing our home, I’ve consistently attended HOA meetings to understand our needs, our dues, and the challenges facing a community of our age and size. I want to strengthen the board, support responsible stewardship of our $3 million budget, and help ensure we have the volunteers and leadership required to thrive. My priority is protecting and elevating our property values while keeping Seven Lakes a desirable, well‑managed, maintained, place to live. I’m committed to being part of the solution and contributing to our shared success.

Nick France

I moved to Seven Lakes in August 2021 after doing a turbine maintenance job at the Sherwood  H. Smith facility for Duke energy in Hamlet.

Background

Retired Union Millwright, working predominantly on gas and steam driven turbines and electrical generators.

Community Service

Candidate Statement

I would love to see the neighborhood return to its roots, running itself from within and taking care of its infrastructure and its people. My priorities are with my neighbors, and for the collective betterment of our community. Our roads, gates, and shared spaces all need attention. Our children need places to safely play, and positive things to do. It would be an honor to be appointed to the board to have a hand in helping make this a better place for us all.

Meghan Gaughan

Residency

Originally from Washington State, I came to North Carolina by way of the Army. We moved to Seven Lakes South in 2022 because we were looking for a place with a true feel of community and where our two boys could safely ride their bikes and where neighbors know one another.

Background

I am currently a stay-at-home mom while working toward a degree in environmental science, which has strengthened my interest in well-planned and responsible land stewardship.

Community Service

In addition to my military career, I have worked with nonprofit organizations such as Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) and Wear Blue: Run to Remember, supporting both active-duty and Gold Star military families. I also currently serve on the SLLA Lakes and Dams Committee.

Candidate Statement

I am running for the SLLA HOA Board to bring back a strong sense of neighborhood and community to Seven Lakes. I believe Seven Lakes is strongest while it both honors long-time residents while thoughtfully welcoming new families who are putting down roots here. There should be a place for everyone, and everyone should have a voice. Open communication, transparency, and careful planning are essential to meeting the needs of residents at every stage of life and preserving the character of the community we all value.

Mike Hodges

Residency

I came to the Seven Lakes about 25 years ago to interview for a job and a realtor showed me the north side as a nice place to possibly purchase a home. I fell in love with the area, so my wife Jules and I moved here about nine years ago.

Background

I worked for Fruit of the Loom earlier in my career and as director of manufacturing for a textile company in Winston Salem the last 17 years.

Community Service

Working in management, I have developed what I consider exceptional people skills and a lot of experience managing people and processes. Also have experience with creating budgets and adhering to them. I have experience with working with outside vendors in purchasing products and services. Working in management you develop team skills and skills on how to motivate others.

Candidate Statement

My wife Jules and I wanted to live on water when we retired and fell in love with the beauty and serenity of this community. I have to be honest and say I have seen those things decline over the years. I would like to be part of preserving the beauty and safety of this community. I think rules are not enforced adequately and I am a firm believer in either enforcing rules or not having them. This is something I think needs a lot of attention. The beauty and safety of this community is top priority.

Amber Johnson

Residency

I’ve lived in Seven Lakes for almost 10 years.  I grew up a few miles from here so, this is essentially “home” for me.

Background

I currently work for a fintech software company where I oversee our platform migration strategy.

Community Service

I am an accountant and have worked in various accounting and audit functions.  I have managed and led groups of varying sizes for over twenty years. In addition, I am currently the Treasurer for SLLA and have previously served on various committees.

Candidate Statement

My interest is in preserving this community and all it has to offer. I believe sustainability is the most critical issue to be addressed over the next few years. We are a 100 percent self-funded community. As prices go up so does the cost to maintain our community and all our wonderful amenities. I’d like to see property values continue to increase as the surrounding areas grow and demand for real estate remains high. I’d like to avoid detrimental impacts that can result from a lack of community engagement, sense of responsibility, personal investment, and fiscal responsibility.

Charlotte A. Kennedy

Residency

I have been a resident for nine years. I was living in Washington D.C. and was tired of the hustle and bustle of traffic and the big city.  It was also an opportunity to move from the Chesapeake Bay brackish water to clear lake water.

Background

I am retired; but I was a certified Project Manager Professional (PMP) and worked in the Washington DC area on IT software upgrades and implementations.

Community Service

I was a co-chair of the Power for Purple Alzheimer’s Golf Event that raised $12,000 in 2023 and $20,000 for the cause in 2024. I was appointed in December 2024 to the SLLA vacated position of Compliances Director and currently serve as the President of the SLLA for North and South.

Candidate statement:

I am passionate about serving on the Board to help strengthen our Seven Lakes community. My priorities as Compliance Director include updating our Rules and Regulations, restructuring the Standards Committee, and expanding programs like “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.” I value our volunteer spirit and believe in working together to achieve meaningful improvements, such as live-streaming Board meetings, enhancing the stables property, and renovating the clubhouse. I am committed to fostering transparency, collaboration, and positive change for all residents.

Bill Mosbrook

Residency

I moved here two years ago from Tucson, Arizona right after becoming a widower; my father and brother have lived in Pinehurst for many years.

Background

I am retired from the Dupont company, General Electric, Varian Associates, and Pathfinder Publishing, having held positions in middle and upper management in marketing, sales and book publishing.

Community Service

While living in Oxnard, California I was a director and treasurer of the HOA of Harbor Island, where I set up a finance committee. We never had to raise dues and established reserve funds to cover future emergency needs. We moved to Vail, Arizona where I was a member of the board of directors for five years of Coyote Creek HOA.

Candidate Statement

My philosophy on the role of a HOA is to protect and maintain a high level of property value while being run as a business. We (my yellow Labrador Retriever, Luna) and I think this community is a great place to live, with the amenities and quality of people who live here. We really appreciate the quiet when compared to Pinehurst and would like to contribute to maintaining it as best that we can.

Katina Windle

Residency

I am originally from Texas, but I have resided in Moore County since 2007. I have lived in Seven Lakes South since 2020, with my retired husband of 30 years, Chris Windle. I am a mom of eight children, with four still residing at home.

Background

As a mom, I will bring a fresh and much-needed family perspective to the board. I have hopes of encouraging more families, especially parents and caregivers, to become involved in committees, volunteer roles, and board services. Our community leadership will truly reflect the people it serves.

Candidate Statement

I would love to build a bridge that brings neighbors together. A place where people feel encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and express differing viewpoints without fear of being shut down. Opinions do matter, and with respectful dialogue, we can work together for our community. Residents should not have to jump through endless hoops to see, or understand, the documents that support our finances, contracts, and governance. Every resident should be able to clearly understand the day-to-day processes and the documents that govern us. Transparency builds trust, and trust is essential to a healthy and ever-growing community.
