Construction has begun on the East Gate renovation in Seven Lakes West. This multiphase project is designed to improve traffic flow, enhance safety and strengthen security.
Engineering is complete. Survey stakes were placed and underground utilities were marked in early February. Equipment began arriving on site to begin Phase 1 of the project. While initial plans shared last December estimated completion by May 2026, a message to the community on Feb. 6 projects the renovation and upgrade is expected to be completed by August.
While the improvements are hoped to bring long-term benefits, residents can expect some temporary inconvenience along the way.
The project has been divided into phases, minimizing disruption. During Phase 1, crews will focus on the southern side of the current exit lane. This initial work includes tree removal, grading and construction of a new exit lane. Barring unforeseen site conditions, leadership anticipates minimal impact to daily entry and exit.
Once the new lane is complete, traffic exiting the community will be rerouted onto it as construction progresses to the next stage. Residents are encouraged to remain attentive to changing traffic patterns and postage signage throughout the process.
When finished, the East Gate will closely resemble the main entrance to Seven Lakes West off N.C. 211 in both appearance and function. One of the most significant upgrades will be an improved turnaround lane designed specifically to accommodate large vehicles. This lane will allow 18-wheelers to exit onto N.C. 73 without entering the community itself. This change is expected to reduce unnecessary traffic within the neighborhood and to improve overall safety.
The construction will bring equipment, noise and worker presence near the gate for several months. Residents are asked to exercise caution when entering and exiting the gate area, particularly during work hours.
Leadership will post updates regarding the construction progress on a pinned announcement in the TownSq App. This will be the most reliable way for residents to stay informed regarding any gate closures.
