The Kiwanis Club of Seven Lakes recently awarded six Fred Seufert Scholarships to graduating seniors from Union Pines High School, recognizing their commitment to service, leadership and academic achievement.
This year’s recipients are Emily Blakemore, Trenton Coleman, Keion Fairley, Cali Lambert, Serena McCutchen and Sophia Tromel. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship.
All six students were active members of the Union Pines High School Key Club, a student-led service organization sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Seven Lakes. Through Key Club, students participate in a variety of volunteer projects that benefit their school and the broader community while developing leadership skills and a lifelong commitment to service.
Union Pines Key Club members are regular volunteers at the Kiwanis Club of Seven Lakes pancake breakfast fundraisers.
The scholarships honor the memory of Fred Seufert, a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Seven Lakes who was named Kiwanian of the Year in the early 2000s.
Seufert was widely known for his dedication to the Seven Lakes community and his willingness to help others. Following his death, a legacy gift from his estate established a scholarship fund that annually supports local students.
Among this year’s recipients, Trenton Coleman served as president of the Union Pines High School Key Club during the 2025-26 school year. He plans to attend Sandhills Community College.
Keion Fairley, who served as the club’s webmaster, will attend the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Emily Blakemore plans to continue her education at Sandhills Community College. Cali Lambert will attend the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Serena McCutchen plans to attend Columbia International University in South Carolina. Sophia Troemel will attend the University of Mount Olive.
Recipients of the Fred Seufert Scholarship must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average while demonstrating active participation in Key Club activities and service opportunities. The scholarship selection process reflects the values that Seufert embodied through his years of community involvement.
The Kiwanis Club of Seven Lakes is part of Kiwanis International, a global service organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and strengthening communities. Locally, the club supports youth programs, educational initiatives and community service projects throughout Moore County.
