Haiti Help and Hope, or HHH, is a nonprofit organization and is composed of volunteers from Moore County who are engaged in the work and planning of the ministry with Pastor Dortul Sidor. Sidor’s ministry serves four churches and the Lahai Roi School of 400 students.

The name, “Lahai-Roi,” is Hebrew for “the God who sees,” and it is the name Sidor gave to his ministry to communicate hope to a people who often feel invisible. In the Bible, Lahai-Roi is the name Hagar gives to a well that appears to her in the wilderness during a desperate time.

Sidor was burdened by the needs of his native land and the Haitian people. In 2011, Sidor and his wife, Lilian, left their children, grandchildren and the comforts of the United States.

“We have decided to remain in Haiti for many good reasons. It is a call from God for Lilian and I to be in Haiti,” Sidor said. “People are very grateful for what God has done in their life through this ministry. We have accomplished too much and to leave everything behind, it will be a waste of time, energy and money.”

Haiti Help and Hope is Sidor’s main mission partner. He is grateful for the ways they support him financially and through prayer.

Sidor wishes for people in the U.S. to know that Haitians are hardworking people who love God. But the situation is dire for many.

“Today, the country is in very bad condition. People are starving,” he said. “Ministries like ours, Lahai-Roi, are a blessing to the people.”

The Haiti Help and Hope annual fundraiser provides teacher and staff salaries along with breakfast and lunch each day. These are the only meals the majority of the children have access to each day.

Tickets are $20 per adult, children 12 and under are admitted for free. Bring a chair or blanket to relax and enjoy the afternoon. For more information, call or text (910) 936-8024.
