The Autism Golf Tournament returns to Seven Lakes Golf Club for its second year on Monday, Oct. 12.
Proceeds benefit Camp Royall, a program of the Autism Society of North Carolina. Last year’s tournament raised more than $6,000 to support individuals with autism and their families through Camp Royall’s year-round programs.
Seven Lakes resident Stuart Moss, who organized the first tournament, was inspired to support Camp Royall after a conversation with a friend about the challenges his family faced caring for a grandchild on the autism spectrum. Moss began actively researching resources for families and discovered Camp Royall, a 133-acre facility near Pittsboro.
Camp Royall serves individuals with autism of all ages and abilities through overnight and day camps, family programs, teen retreats and other year-round activities. The programs provide opportunities for participants to build independence and confidence while also supporting families by providing families with respite and connection.
This year’s tournament will be a traditional four-person tournament. There is still room for golfers, and individuals or teams are encouraged to participate. The tournament will also feature a silent auction including a Pinehurst No. 2 flag signed by Ernie Els.
Hole sponsorships are available for $300. Moss invites local businesses and organizations to lend their support to the tournament.
Last year, representatives of the Autism Society and families connected to its programs participated and volunteered at the event, helping golfers understand more about the organization’s work.
For Moss, the tournament is an opportunity to connect with people who want to provide practical support for families navigating challenging circumstances.
