The Chapel in the Pines held its second 50th Anniversary event, a pulled pork BBQ picnic, on Saturday, Aug. 15. The great turnout was entertained by the gospel sounds of Just A Lil Grace entertaining.
The food and music were excellent.
Back in 1976, the Chapel was just a small space that could seat about 40 people. The founders wanted a place to worship locally, and there were not many options.
When starting their own place of worship, the founders molded its culture to the lifestyle of Seven Lakes where the second holy ground was, for many, the golf course.
Worship would be early, followed by some coffee, cookies and fellowship and then off to the golf course. This is the way it still is.
Over the years, as the membership grew, the Chapel needed to grow as well. It has been expanded three times and added onto three times.
Over the next four months, the Chapel will be celebrating its anniversary with three more events.
The Chapel will host a celebration Bingo game at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept.12. The Kiwanis Club of Seven Lakes, which meets at the Chapel twice each month and hosts monthly Bingo games on the first Tuesday of each month will be co-sponsors of this event.
Join the Chapel on Oct. 15 for the Annual Spaghetti Dinner for the whole community. Last year over 200 plates were served. Organizers would love to break that record this year.
Celebration Day will be Nov. 15, beginning with a worship service at 10 a.m., followed by the
burial of a new time capsule and a catered celebration lunch.
The Chapel is also publishing a 50th anniversary cookbook that will be available in a couple of months as well as a commemorative T-shirt. Both are available to the public.
The whole community is invited to join in these special celebrations. The Chapel belongs to the community, and it is for everyone.
