Moore County is currently home to two Sheetz convenience stores and gas stations. Now, a third Sheetz is planned off N.C. 211 in West End.

On Tuesday, the Moore County Board of Adjustment approved two requested deviations from the county codes for the development due to site constrictions. The Sheetz is planned at 5364 N.C. 211, across from Medley Anna’s antique store and near the Tractor Supply.

The first request was to allow the location of the Sheetz fuel canopy and gas pumps in the front of the property, closest to N.C. 211. The second was to not build a road connection to the adjacent property, which is a standard in the county’s Highway Corridor Overlay District when adjoining parcels are multifamily or non-residential.

Attorney Nick Blackwood from Greensboro presented on behalf of Sheetz. He said an original submittal to the county was in compliance, but the design changed because the site must be served by a septic system. That area of the county is set for public sewer, but the site is unable to tie directly to the planned sewer force main.

“Our site is really getting pinched by virtue of having to install that septic system,” Blackwood said.”

After engineering review, it was determined the south end of the site was the most viable spot for the septic system drainfield, requiring the Sheetz building and fuel canopy to be closer to the north end of the site.

The Board of Adjustment had few questions and heard no opposition on the matter. Board Chair Frank Thigpen said a Sheetz would be a good addition for that area.

“It’s going to be a beautiful site for downtown West End,” Thigpen said.
