Agriculture contributes about $373,000,000 to the local economy, provides about 13% of the county’s jobs, and preserves the county’s rural character. To focus on agriculture’s significance to Moore County, its rich heritage and its promising future, the Moore County Cooperative Extension Service, the Moore County Soil and Water District and our sponsors will be hosting the 2018 Farm-City Week, March 19-24. The purpose of the week is to educate Moore County residents and public officials about the importance of agriculture to the vitality of Moore County.
The events for the week include:
The Farm City Banquet:
The Annual Farm-City Banquet which honors our local farmers is scheduled for March 19 at 6:30 pm at the Moore County Agricultural Building located at 707 Pinehurst Avenue in Carthage. The banquet is a way to show appreciation and encouragement to the farmers and their families who contribute selflessly to the affordable food supply we all enjoy. Two of the highlights of the banquet are recognizing a Young Farmer of the Year and the Farm Family of the Year. The recipients of these awards have been chosen by the Soil and Water Conservation Board. Other features of the evening include music by local musicians, the Paint Hill Holdouts of the Java Bean Plantation in Southern Pines and inspiring comments by former WRAL Anchor, Lynda Loveland. The banquet is open to the public.
