Making a Difference

Kiwanis of Seven Lakes

by Bud Sales

An old man was walking the beach early one morning after a severe storm.  He noticed there were thousands of starfish that had washed up on the shoreline during the blow.  He began picking them up and throwing them back into the ocean.

A young man came along and observed what the old man was doing.  “Hey,” the young man shouted, “there are thousands of starfish on the beach. What difference can you make throwing a few of them back into the ocean?”

The old man picked up another starfish and threw it into the ocean and said, “Makes a difference to that one.”

Do you make a difference in our community?

Seven Lakes Kiwanis needs your help.  Many current members are aging out and we need new, younger men and women who can meet once or twice a month for lunch, fellowship, and to listen to a great speaker from the local area and volunteer to take part in one of more of the many fund raising activities we hold during the year to raise money to help our children.

Seven Lakes Kiwanis’ sole mission is to make a difference in the lives of the children of our community, of Moore County and of children beyond.  It has been said that every member of Kiwanis, over a 10 year period, makes a difference in the lives of 206 children. Whether that number is accurate or anecdotal is irrelevant.  What’s important is that a difference is made.
