PINEHURST – Captain Fluoride has a goal: it’s helping to save young smiles.
The mascot for FirstHealth Dental Care will encourage others to do the same by donating dental care supplies during the Help Captain Fluoride Save a Smile dental supply drive scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 at Walmart in Aberdeen.
Donated supplies will be distributed to patients of FirstHealth Dental Care.
Dental supplies such as toothbrushes and toothpaste are critical to pediatric tooth care, yet can go unpurchased due to the cost. This supply drive will help the dental care staff provide the necessary dental health tools for their patients.
Some of the supplies needed most are basic dental items such as children and adult toothbrushes, dental floss and toothpaste.
Since 1998, FirstHealth Dental Care has provided dental care to more than 28,000 underserved children in Moore, Montgomery and Hoke counties. The program’s dentists and staff provide services for children from birth to 21 years who receive Medicaid or Health Choice or are uninsured and who qualify by income level.
Services provided include preventive dental sealants, cleanings and exams, fillings, extractions and spacers.
“Our community has been extremely supportive in previous years, and we are hoping for the same generosity and support this year,” says Sharon Nicholson Harrell, DDS, MPH, director of FirstHealth Dental Care. “We can’t thank Walmart enough for allowing us to hold this drive year after year.”
