Moore Regional and Moore Regional – Richmond Earn Top Grade in Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Rating

David J. Kilarski Chief Executive Officer FirstHealth of the Carolinas

PINEHURST – FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital and FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond have once again earned “A” grades on Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades that were announced April 24 by The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization committed to driving quality, safety and transparency in the United States health care system.

The designation marks the fourth consecutive “A” rating for Moore Regional Hospital and the third consecutive “A” rating for Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond.

Only 750 hospitals received the “A” ranking, positioning both campuses among the safest hospitals in the United States.

The Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.

“It is an honor for FirstHealth to continuously be recognized by the Leapfrog Group for our demonstrated commitment to ensuring patient safety,” says David J. Kilarski, chief executive officer of FirstHealth of the Carolinas. “Our physicians, nurses and staff work tirelessly to provide a safe environment and the best possible care for our patients. This is indeed an honor to be shared among the entire FirstHealth family.”

Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

“This is the only national rating of how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm and death, such as medical errors, infections and injuries,” says Leah Binder, president and chief executive officer of The Leapfrog Group. “Receiving an ‘A’ Safety Grade means a hospital is among the best in the country for preventing these terrible problems and putting their patients first, 24-hours a day.”
