Live Independently at Fox Hollow Senior Living

Fox Hollow, a division of Five Star Senior Living based out of Newton, Massachusetts, is a senior living community located in Pinehurst, NC.   Fox Hollow has been a part of Five Star Senior Living since December of 2008.  Nydia Brooks is the Executive Director and has been in the community for 15 years.  Fox Hollow can accommodate 77 total residents – 60 in the Assisted Living neighborhood and 17 in the Memory Care neighborhood.

Robin Hutchings, sales counselor, has been with Fox Hollow Senior Living Community for the last two years and helps families find a solution for their senior living needs.

What makes Fox Hollow different from other senior communities is its signature Lifestyle 360 Program which focuses on the five dimensions of wellness including physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social.

“Every day we have an activity that touches on each of those,” Hutchings said.  “We believe in keeping residents active, so they can have a full life.”

Activities that are offered to residents during their stay include bridge, garden club, church, bingo, and outings to eat, shop, and see parades and events in the community.

“We still engage in the community,” Hutchings said.  “We want to take away the headache of having your own home and the things that go with it such as yard maintenance, meals, laundry, and cleaning.”

The team at Fox Hollow ensures that the living experience is both comfortable and enjoyable for both residents and visitors.

Fox Hollow offers signature programs such as their Five Star Dining, which allows residents to eat when they want to eat and gives them meal options as well as an every-day menu to order from.  Meals include a choice of two entrees, soup, and a dessert.

“We have hydration stations and fruit bowls as well as snacks throughout the day and before bed,” Hutchings said.

A laundry room and kitchen are provided for those who wish to take advantage of them.

“You can still be independent with assistance,” Hutchings said.

Residents are permitted to have their own vehicles and come and go as they please.  Transportation is also provided by the community to go to outings and doctor appointments.

Fox Hollow also provides music therapy, pet therapy, and other in-house therapy for more convenience.  Physical, occupational, and speech therapy are available in-house daily.

A Bridge to Rediscovery program is provided for residents in Memory Care.  This is a Montessori-based program which involves a significant amount of one-on-one interaction with the residents.

Within this program, families are encouraged to make a memory box and fill out a comprehensive life story.  This information allows caregivers to help “fill in the gaps” if a resident is struggling to remember something.

“Sometimes they know what they want to say, but they have trouble communicating their thoughts.  When they can’t express their thoughts, we use the tools we have gathered from the comprehensive life story to help them,” Hutchings said.

Both the Assisted Living and Memory Care residents are free to be independent and go to their rooms as they please, although caregivers encourage them to be active as much as possible and to enjoy all of the activities available to them.

Families and friends are encouraged to be a part of the Fox Hollow community and visit.

“We want them to feel welcome,” Hutchings said.  “We really are a great community.  We want people to come see and visit.”

Local churches also visit to host Bible studies and church services.  Fox Hollow respects all religions and spiritual beliefs.

Fox Hollow is described as apartment-style living at its best.  Apartments may come furnished for convenience, or unfurnished to allow residents to bring in their own furniture to feel more at home.

Apartments range from studio-style to bedroom suites.  Couples are also welcome to reside together, and some apartments include a kitchenette.

Fox Hollow offers a resident referral bonus to those who encourage their friends to come and be a part of the Fox Hollow community.

“This makes an old neighbor a new neighbor,” Hutchings said.
