Registration is currently open for children golfers for the Spring session.
First Tee Golf Coach Bill Baker, who is also the Golf Operations Manager at Beacon Ridge Country Club, was raised in the golfing world.
“My mom and dad were both golf nuts,” he said. “I always felt comfortable at the golf course.”
Bill ended up playing golf throughout college while earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Golf continues to be a part of his everyday life.
Bill and his wife moved to Moore County in 2000, and he began working at FoxFire Golf in 2001 as assistant golf pro.
In 2008, he also began working with the First Tee, an organization with headquarters in St. Augustine, Florida. He became the executive director of first tee of the Sandhills and continues to coach through the organization.
“I use physics to teach,” Bill said. “I’m not out to change people’s swings. I just try to do the best with what they’re brining. It’s mostly small adjustments that make big improvements.”
In 2011, the Baker family moved to Seven Lakes South. With golf courses in his back yard, Bill was able to continue his golfing career and also taught golf summer camp at Seven Lakes Golf Club.
Bill currently works at Beacon Ridge and is planning on doing a summer camp there this summer.
Registration is currently open for PGA Junior League which will take place Sunday afternoons starting on March 3rd from 3:00PM-5:00PM. March 3rd is free of charge as it will be the first day. It is open to 7-12 year olds, and parents are welcome to play with their children as a team. While practice will not yet begin on this initial day, clubs may still be brought to help children practice getting into the swing of things.
For those who wish to register children ages 5-6, coaching programs will be offered at Seven Lakes Golf through First Tee.
Bill Baker also offers private lessons to all ages at $50 per hour and $35 per half hour. Group lessons of 5 or more people are $10 per person.
