An “Act to Expand Eligibility for Utility Account Funds” sponsored by Reps Jamie Boles and Allen McNeill moved through the House Committee on Commerce with a favorable report. North Carolina’s Industrial Development Fund Utility Account or the Utility Account, provides infrastructure grants to local governments in Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties. This money is designated for construction or improvements exclusively for infrastructure projects. This legislation is seeking to allow the seven lowest ranked Tier 3 counties to be eligible for the Utility Account funds. Reps Boles and McNeill, along with Senator Tom McInnis who has a companion bill in the Senate, will continue to work hard to see this bill pass.
