On Wednesday June 5, 2019 a Hoke County Jury convicted Allen Maurice Morrison, following a jury trial in Hoke County Superior Court. Morrison was convicted of seven counts of Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Vehicle While in Operation, three counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. These charges stemmed from a shooting that occurred on January 14, 2017. The evidence presented by Assistant District Attorney John Thompson established that on January 14, 2017 at 2:30 am, good Samaritan, Les Mortenson, stopped his truck on Aberdeen Road after he was flagged down by two distraught women. The women had fled through the woods from Allen Morrison’s house following a disturbance at the residence. Morrison had fired at the women as they fled. Morrison then followed in his vehicle. Morrison then shot repeatedly into the truck as Mortenson and the women tried to get away. The three victims were able to escape safely and report the incident to the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office. Morrison was sentenced to 177 months to 249 months in prison. The Hoke County District Attorney’s Office would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation and prosecution of this case.
