Southern Pines Library Offering Weekly Programs

The Southern Pines Public Library holds multiple programs on a weekly and monthly basis to serve the needs of the community. The programs are wide ranging from ages of newborns to adults!

Amanda Brown, Interim Director of the Southern Pines Library said, “Our community here is growing with a lot of families with children so over the years we started out with just a preschool story time and since then we have added all the rest.”

There are several programs for children, they have Baby Rhymes for ages birth to 2 years held on Tuesdays at 10:30am and 11am. They also offer Preschool Stories for ages 3-5 held on Wednesdays at 10:30am. Thirdly, they offer Toddler Tunes for ages 18 months to 36 months on Thursdays at 10:30am and 11am. When attending one of these children’s events, it is required to check in with a library card.

For residents who do not live in Southern Pines, a library card is required, which would be $60 for one year unlimited to the library. For those only interested in the Children’s and Teen’s section they would be able to get a limited library card for $30 a year.

Southern Pines Library also offers learning opportunities for children grades K-5, once a month they have STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Art, Math) Saturday at 11am, they will be on April 18th, and May 9th.

“We just want to keep in touch with what the community’s needs are and adapt ourselves to those. So as our community changes over the years we try and make sure that we stay in touch with that,” Brown said.

For adults, they also have a book club at the Douglass Center, using books from SPPL, they will meet April 16th, and May 21st at 10:30am. SPPL also offers a Sunday Afternoon Writing Group once a month on Sunday at 3pm, the upcoming dates are April 5th, and May 3rd.
