PINEHURST – FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, including its Richmond and Hoke campuses, has once again been recognized as one of the state’s best hospitals and as a top hospital in patient satisfaction by Business North Carolina magazine. Both FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Hoke and Richmond campuses share this recognition because they are divisions of Moore Regional, the flagship hospital in Pinehurst.

Moore Regional ranked No.4 in the “best hospital” ranking (tied with Duke University Hospital and CarolinaEast Medical Center) and No. 4 in the “patient picks” list.

“We are extremely pleased to be recognized by Business North Carolina magazine as one of the top hospitals in North Carolina and as a top hospital for patient satisfaction,” says Mickey W. Foster, chief executive officer for FirstHealth of the Carolinas. “This achievement would not be possible without each and every FirstHealth employee, medical staff member and volunteer. It is truly an honor to be recognized among some of the best academic and non-academic health care institutions in the state.  These rankings demonstrate the hard work and compassionate care delivered every day in the communities we serve.”

According to Business North Carolina Magazine, the rankings are calculated using more than 25 metrics, including information provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, patient satisfaction surveys, infection rates, readmission and death rates for common procedures.  Other criteria include safety reports from The Leapfrog Group, distinction awards from Blue Cross Blue Shield and national ratings from U.S. News & World Report.

The “patient picks” list is a result of The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) that surveys hospital patients between 48 hours and six weeks of discharge.  It ranks hospitals based on the percentage of patients who would recommend the hospital to others.  Moore Regional’s No. 4 ranking was based on a score of 84%. The average statewide score is 70%, while the national average is 72%.

“Moore Regional is honored to once again be recognized among the best hospitals in the state,” says John Krahnert Jr., M.D., FirstHealth’s chief medical officer. “This achievement is a testament to the commitment of our medical staff, the nursing staff and everyone involved in the patient care experience to offer a level of medical excellence that is recognized among the best in North Carolina.”

The Business North Carolina story also noted Moore Regional Hospital’s recognition by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina as “Proven Winners” for cardiac care, maternity care and bariatric surgery – noted as a comprehensive bariatric center.

The Business North Carolina story also referenced Moore Regional’s recognition as a U.S. News & World Report “Top-Performing Hospitals” in the following adult specialties: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery.

“We are committed to providing compassionate patient care, the latest technology and clinical expertise,” says Dr. Krahnert. “To be recognized as a Proven Winner hospital by Blue Cross Blue Shield and a Top-Performing Hospital by U.S. News & World Report for multiple specialties solidifies that we provide exceptional, quality care throughout our system and in our region.”
