The Seven Lakes Landowners Association recently recognized John Svedman with a standing ovation as the Citizen of the Year at its annual meeting.
This award is presented by the board to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding service to the Seven Lakes Community.
Years in Seven Lakes West: Nine
Previously lived in: New Jersey
Occupation:
Retired computer software designer.
Best part of living in Seven Lakes: I think it’s the friendships I’ve made and the people in the community. That’s why I do what I do.
Favorite thing to do:
I play golf three times a week. I live on the golf course in Seven Lakes South so that makes it very convenient.
Hobbies and Interests:
My hobby is anything! Today I was tearing apart a coffee maker that wasn’t working and
was able to fix that. Maybe it’s a piece of lawn equipment that’s not working, and I have to put a new carburetor in it or something like that. I enjoy the challenge of trying to work on a variety of things.
Community Involvement:
I’ve worked on the Architectural Review Board for several years. Which I enjoyed mainly because we got to go out and see and actually talk to the people in the community. The last couple years I’ve been working with the Facilities and Maintenance Committee working on projects that we as volunteers can do throughout the community.
Becoming Citizen of the Year:
I was surprised. Quite surprised. I almost forgot about the meeting. My wife dragged me over there because she knew about it but I didn’t.
Motivation: I grew up with a dad who always did everything on his own and never hesitated to try something new. He just went in and did it. I just grew up that way — you just go ahead and tackle any job.
Words of Wisdom:
There is an expression I use a lot as we get older and older. My first degree was in physics, and there’s an expression in physics that says: “a body in motion tends to stay in motion. A body at rest tends to stay at rest.” And so that’s my motto. If you keep in motion you’ll keep going.
