Dena DeLucia and Chelsea Huggins, co-owners of DeLucia’s Bake Shop in Seven Lakes, hosted customers for a “Birthday Party for America” on July 3. The party served as the grand opening of the small business which launched in April.
The party featured patriotic decorations, a festive cake and special guest, David Alstor, Chief of Seven Lakes Fire and Rescue. In a nod to the 1773 Boston Tea Party and its historical significance in the United States’ fight for independence from British rule, tea was served.
Before lighting sparklers atop the cake, DeLucia talked about the meaning of Independence Day. “Red, white and blue are my favorite colors,” said Delucia who served in the U.S. Army for 23 years. “We will always celebrate America.”
She also thanked her customers for coming and hopes the community will continue to support the veteran-owned small business. “We’ll make you any cake you want,” she said.
Dozens of patrons dug into the complimentary yellow cake layered with fudge and strawberry fillings and frosted with Italian buttercream icing while listening to patriotic music. Customers took the opportunity to stock up on pastries and treats to enjoy over the Independence Day holiday.
DeLucia’s will be closed on July 4. Their regular hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The Bakery is located at 4245 Seven Lakes Plaza and can be reached at (910) 400-5075.
