The nine-hole women’s golf group, the Beaconettes, play golf on Thursday mornings from March through November at Beacon Ridge Golf Club. In December, they celebrate the year’s accomplishments with lunch and awards.

The end of year luncheon was held on Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Southside Bar and Grill. Vice-President Donna McCallum chaired the lunch and presided over the event.

Barb Card presented the 2024 Beaconette Championship Cup to Sara Swicegood. The cup tournament is the best-of-three winner from best monthly Beaconette Cup play and the two-round tournament in October.

Clara Karnish, tournament chair for weekly play, shared summary stats for the 2024 games and play. Highlights from the year included thirty-eight games scheduled and five called for weather; the hardest hole was No. 2; the easiest hole was No. 3; most birdies and chip-ins were at Hole No. 7 and most pars were at Hole No. 16.

Award certificates were presented to:

• Most Improved: Sue Reaves;

• Most Birdies: Mary Ellen Buckley;

• Most Chip-Ins: Sara Swicegood and Georgette Hill (tied with three);

• Ringer Board, Red Tees: Mary Ellen Buckley; Green Tees: Donna McCallum;

• Most Rounds Played: Sara Swicegood and Barbara Card (tied with 30)

• Closest to the Pin: Mary Ellen Buckley, six feet within hole No. 6 on July 4.

The distribution of the cash award for 2024 was conducted by Becky Graham. Players receive cash awards for weekly game play, birdies, and chip-ins.

Winter play began the week following the luncheon on Dec. 11. Play is optional with no formal game until regular play resumes on opening day on Thursday, March 6.

Beaconettes is open to any female golfer. Contact the Beacon Ridge pro shop if you are interested in joining the group.
