The weather outside for the January meeting of the Seven Lakes Garden Club was not conducive to gardening, but the potential opportunities of spring got a lot more interesting.

Joe Granato, who co-owns Star Ridge Aquatics with his wife, Rebekah, made a splash with a presentation about adding water features to the garden.

Star Ridge is both a water garden provider and a farm. The farm offers fresh eggs, a variety of fruits in season, and honey.

The presentation focused on water garden options and opportunities. The first step is deciding what type of water feature you would like to have based on your space and desires. As in all things, there are different strokes for different folks. Among the the things to consider are:

  • Do you want the sound of water?
  • Do you want fish?
  • Do you want plants?

Joe shared pictures of a variety of installations and explained the elements of those features.

Star Ridge has the capacity to install and maintain your water feature — anything from a pond with water falls to a bubbler on a rock bed. If you can dream it, they can make it happen. Do-it-yourself kits are also available for purchase.

They grow their own water and desert plants and have a wide variety of beautiful fish to brighten your pond.

They love visitors to their location just up the road at 180 Star Ridge Road in Carthage. Joe and Rebekah have been building their business for over 30 years to become one of the largest providers of water plants, features, and fish in the state and region.

The fun and inspiring presentation on a frigid day was just what the club needed to start dreaming of warmer weather projects.
