In a bygone era, the small business area at the busy corner of N.C. 73 and N.C. 211 in West End was home of the Stanley Furniture Company, an old Red and White Grocery store (later two antique stores), a barber and a movie theater.

The furniture company closed the West End plant in 2002 taking about 400 jobs with it.

Much of the physical evidence of the once-vital junction was piled into dumpsters when the N.C. Department of Transportation began demolition in 2019 to make room for more lanes of highway.

The two small businesses spared in the razing, Cagle’s Auto Repair and Medley Anna’s Antique Store, are gaining a new, large neighbor.

Tractor Supply Co. began clearing several parcels of land totaling approximately 6 acres at the intersection in August. It is the first big box store in this part of Moore County.

Representatives from Tractor Supply Co. say that construction is on track. The store is about a month or two out from a soft opening. A grand opening will be planned for this spring.

The company anticipates the new store will provide 15 new jobs to the area with at least half of them being full time positions. They have begun hiring for the West End store. Those interested in applying should visit www.tractorsupply.careers and search for opportunities at the West End location.
