Six Seeking Election to SLLA Board

By Maggie Beamguard

Insider Editor

Landowners in Seven Lakes North and South have a pool of six candidates to elect to four open seats on the association board.

Members in good standing, with no outstanding fines, fees or unpaid dues are eligible to run. The board seats seven directors to serve two-year terms.

Landowners will receive ballots in mid-February by mail. The dates for candidate “meet and greet” forums will be announced after this article deadline

The newly elected officers will be announced and welcomed at the SLLA annual meeting which takes place in March.

Residents can return their ballots by mail or by dropping them off in the SLLA office.

All candidates were invited by the Seven Lakes Insider to submit profiles, including candidate statements of under 150 words. Debra McClintic declined the opportunity to participate and Tom Liddy did not respond. All candidates supplied biographical statements to be circulated to the Seven Lakes North and South community.

This unofficial forum supplements the election processes. The candidates’ submitted statements were only edited for clarity and to comply with our word limits.

Introducing the SLLA Board Candidates

BOB HAYES

Residency

My wife and I are starting on our fifth year living in Seven Lakes South. We wanted to be closer to our daughters and after an exhaustive search, Seven Lakes checked all the boxes, so we sold our Illinois farm and moved here.

Occupation

I am retired from Macy’s, Florida with over 30 years in executive store management.

Community Service

I served 20 months in the military, put in 24 years as a volunteer fireman and officer in New York, and also was council chairman at our hometown church in Illinois. Before moving to North Carolina, I was a first responder and board chairman of the Murrayville/Woodson Emergency Ambulance Service.

Candidate Statement

My parents raised me with the belief that it is a responsibility to always give back to the community in which you live. As you can see from my related experience, I have met some of those goals. Presently as a director, I am completing the remaining term of a resident which included Chairmanship of the Lakes and Dams Committee. I am currently working with an incredible group of volunteers with the almost daily routine of inspections and maintenance of the lakes and dams, which are over 50 years old. I have also served on the ARB Committee receiving applications for tree removal and fence installations. I would like your vote so that I may continue as an SLLA Board Director.

NANCI KEATING

Residency

I moved from Florida to Seven Lakes in 2019. I have and will continue to strive to keep our wonderful community of Seven Lakes the hidden gem that it is.

Occupation

I retired from the medical field in 2016.

Community Service

I currently serve on the board as vice president as well as director of the Architectural Review Board (ARB).

Candidate Statement

Having served on the board since 2023, I am mindful of the commitment that is needed to be an effective board member as well as have a working knowledge of how the board runs and how important it is to work together for our community. We are all facing challenges in the near future to keep our community alive and well and I am very much aware of what that will take going forward.

BILL MOSBROOK

Residency

I moved here 2 years ago from Tucson, Arizona right after becoming a widower as my father and brother have lived in Pinehurst for many years.

Occupation

I am currently retired from Dupont, General Electric, Varian Associates and Pathfinder Publishing, where I held positions in middle and upper management in marketing and sales of medical equipment, and book publishing.

Community Service

I served for six years as a director and treasurer of the HOA of Harbor Island, Oxnard, California. I set up a finance committee to advise the board. We never raised dues due to controlling finances and establishing reserve funds. With saved funds, we purchased the boat slips surrounding the island. I also served for five years as a member of the board of directors of Coyote Creek HOA when living in Vail, Arizona.

Candidate Statement

My philosophy on the role of a HOA is to protect and maintain a high level of property value while being run as a business. We (my yellow Labrador Retriever, Luna) and I think this community is a great place to live, with the amenities and quality of people who live here. We really appreciate the quiet when compared to Pinehurst and would like to contribute to maintaining it as best that we can.

Marianne Roberts

Residency

My husband John and I have been residents since Aug. 15, 2016. We both love living here.

Occupation

I was a certified medical coder and biller for 20 years. But because of a stroke in April of 2019, I retired.

Community Service

I have been a member of the recreation committee for the past three years and enjoy doing things for the community. I was previously on the standards committee, but my health at the time wouldn’t allow me to continue.

Candidate Statement

I want to serve on the board to keep the positive things flowing, such as the pool, lakes, playgrounds, horses, etc. We have a lot of positives here at Seven Lakes. We also need new roads, and I would like to see us allow sheds. I would love your vote.
