Staff Report
The election of new board members for the Seven Lakes West Landowners Association (SLWLA) is underway.
SLWLA landowners will be electing candidates for two open seats for three-year terms. In order to qualify for election, candidates must be landowners in good standing.
The Recruiting Committee held a candidate forum on Jan. 23 in the Great Room at the Community Center. The forum was moderated by Jo Nicholas, a member and former President of both the local and state chapters of the League of Women Voters. A third candidate, Andy Orander, withdrew from the slate just prior to the forum.
Packets containing ballots and instructions for returning them will be mailed to landowners in February. The newly elected officers will be welcomed at the SLWLA annual meeting which takes place on the third Sunday of March.
Residents can return their ballots by mail or by dropping them off in the SLW office.
All candidates were invited by the Seven Lakes Insider to submit profiles, including candidate statements of under 150 words. This unofficial forum supplements the election processes. The candidates’ submitted statements were edited for clarity.

Residency
I have been a resident of Seven Lakes West for just over three years. Originally from North Carolina, I moved out of state for 15 years, but returned to find employment close to where I grew up in Jamestown and now am fortunate enough to have found a home in Seven Lakes West.
Occupation
I am the Platform Controller for the consolidated accounting offices of Pinehurst Automall, running the accounting office for three dealerships and five automotive franchises.
Community Service
I am currently on the board of directors for Seven Lakes West, appointed in 2024. I have enjoyed working with the current members of the board striving to improve our community. I have also been the race director of the Lake Auman 5K for the past two years and assisted in other community events with the Lake Auman Sport Club, the Easter Egg hunt and others.
Candidate Statement
Being passionate about the community in which I live, I applied to a vacant board position and was appointed in the summer of 2024. I have learned much about the operations of the community and desire to continue to see it thrive. Since we moved here over three years ago, my wife and I have met countless neighbors and became close friends with many of them. We live in a diverse and vibrant community that is growing, and I believe it is important to consider all residents’ interests carefully. While we need to certainly maintain our current amenities and infrastructure, we also need to consider and plan for growth to ensure Seven Lakes West is appealing and a desired destination for future homeowners. As I have a background in volunteering with my local church, scouting and other groups, I feel it essential to remain involved and give back to the community.
