Did you know that Moore County has a volunteer group that regularly checks on residents in area nursing homes and assisted living facilities?
The Moore County Nursing & Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is made up of local citizens who have an interest in serving as advocates for those living in long term care facilities.
The committee was established in legislation ratified in 1978 by the N.C. General Assembly with the intent that each county in the state should take a more active role in promoting the interests and well-being of area residents in long-term care facilities.
According to Chairman Sandy Nusbaum, goals are to advocate for improvement in the quality of care, promote resident rights, and keep the community informed and involved with the elderly population.
Members of the CAC make unannounced visits to facilities on a regular basis, where they speak with residents and family members regarding care received. The findings are then shared during an exit meeting with the facility administrator. Reports from each visit are sent to the Moore County Commissioners and the Regional Ombudsman in Raleigh.
Members are appointed by the county commissioners then trained by the Area Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program in Raleigh. Those interested in volunteering may call Sandy Nusbaum, at 910-684-8246.
