On Thursday, April 2nd, the Women of Seven Lakes collected a total of sixty books to be donated to local preschools.
The President of the Women of Seven Lakes, Lee Connelly, invited the owners of Danielle’s Playhouse and Bright Meadow Christian Preschool to attend a tea party to receive the books.
Tammy Cole, owner of Danielle’s Playhouse, founded the full-day learning center eighteen years ago. She named her business after her daughter, Danielle. Danielle’s Playhouse is located at 1135 Seven Lakes Drive. The phone number is (910) 673-2273.
Shirley Ptak, owner of Bright Meadow Christian Preschool, started her half-day preschool in 2003 while raising her own children. Bright Meadow Christian Preschool is located at 4139 NC Hwy 211 (two doors down from McDonald’s) in Seven Lakes.
After Tammy Cole and Shirley Ptak were presented with the books, they thanked the Women of Seven Lakes and stayed to enjoy tea and pastries.
During the meeting, Carolyn Sink provided a presentation on the history of Moore county. She explained that Moore County was officially established in 1784 and named after Captain Alfred Moore.
According to Sink, Captain Alfred Moore was born in Brunswick County in 1755. He was sent to Boston at age nine to receive a formal education before becoming a wealthy rice plantation owner as a young adult.
Captain Moore was a Colonel in the local militia, an NC State Senator, an NC Attorney General, and appointed to the US Supreme Court.
Captain Moore was twenty-nine years old when the county was named after him, and it is doubtful that he ever set foot in Moore County. He passed away in 1810.
The next Women of Seven Lakes meeting will be at the Chapel of the Pines on Thursday, May 3rd at 2:00PM. Dr. Wright from Dr. Wright Chiropractic will be speaking.
