After years of standing idly at the entrance of West End, the Stanley Furniture Building is finally coming down.
Many residents are relieved that the eyesore will no longer welcome tourists into the area. However, the building will continue to be a memory for those who have driven by hundreds of thousands of times.
As someone who grew up within walking distance, I remember Mom telling me how she would take my brother and me inside when the factory fumes drifted into our backyard.
Anytime I drove towards Pinehurst, a piece of my heart would be warmed by seeing the factory. It is something I have seen throughout my life, and I shall continue to remember it after it is long gone.
