The popular Student vs. Teacher Basketball game at West End Elementary School, held on Thursday, March 17, was started by 4th Grade teacher Matt Glendenning 10 years ago.

PE Teacher Lance Barber appreciates the community aspect of this event and loves “having the opportunity to come together and celebrate our students as they play against some of their favorite teachers.”

This year, the first since COVID-19 restrictions began in 2020, the game was held in conjunction with the school’s Book Fair and PTA meeting. Families purchased books and enjoyed music, games and dinner at food trucks before watching the showdown.

The students were coached during the game by parents Kurt Reihl and Jason Vest. Scotty Pate, whose sons attended WEE, officiated the past four games. Many of the staff stepped in to run the scoreboard and to pitch in with various tasks, making it a memorable evening for all.

This year was the highest scoring game in school history: Teachers, 51-48 over the students. The teachers remained undefeated.
