Help the Chapel in the Pines provide for families this Christmas!
The Angel Tree is part of the annual White Christmas Fundraiser hosted by The Chapel in the Pines. During the fundraiser, items are purchased for underprivileged children and families in the community.
This year, the fundraiser is organized by Joyce Singletary, the Chairperson of the Benevolence Committee (or mission group).
The Angel Trees were set up by Lori Milliman in the Fellowship Hall of Chapel in the Pines and has pictures of children along with the items they would like.
Last year, the White Christmas Fundraiser was able to provide gifts for a total of fifteen families.
This year, the Chapel will be providing gifts for fifteen families from Robbins and ten families from West End. The families receiving gifts have been chosen by the guidance counselor at West End Elementary and the social worker at Robbins Elementary School.
“[Many of these] kids are hesitant to ask for expensive things,” Joyce Singletary said. “Many ask for clothes.”
In fact, most children asked for clothes, including shirts, pants, undergarments, and jackets for winter.
With the Angel Trees, members of the community are able to select the child or children that they would like to purchase a gift for. This is different from previous years when participants would purchase items for an entire family instead of individual children.
Those who choose to purchase a gift for a child may take the name of the child from the tree with plans to purchase and wrap the listed item for the child. Further instructions will be provided at the Chapel. Participants may choose to provide for more than one child if desired.
For those who do not have time to purchase gifts for children but would still like to participate, donations can be made to the Chapel, and funds will be used to make purchases for the children with a budget of $50 per child.
Donations will also be used by the Chapel to purchase food vouchers for the families. Food vouchers will be purchased at a discount from Food Lion.
“Each family will receive food vouchers,” Lori Milliman said. “The amount of food vouchers they receive will depend on the number of people in the family.”
The Angel Trees are located in the Fellowship Hall at the Chapel in the Pines. To view the tree and select an Angel, please visit the office and ask the secretary to guide you to the tree. Office hours are between 9:00am and 1:00pm on Monday through Friday.
The last day to bring gifts to the Chapel is Wednesday, December 14th. Gifts can be dropped off at the office during the office hours previously mentioned.
On Saturday, December 17th, Chapel members and volunteers will gather at 9:00am at the Chapel to drive to homes and deliver gifts to the families. Those who wish to volunteer may contact Lori Milliman by calling 910-400-5329. Coffee and cookies will be provided for volunteers.
“We do ask that people volunteer,” Joyce Singletary said.
To donate to the cause, checks can be made out to the White Christmas Fundraiser. The Chapel in the Pines is located at 2125 Seven Lakes south, Seven Lakes, NC 27376. For more information about the fundraiser, call Joyce Singletary at 910-673-5554.
