NC Federation of Republican Women Announces Scholarship Award

Pat C. Smith, President of the 2,000-member NC Federation of Republican Women (NCFRW), is pleased to announce the award of 2019’s Caring for America Scholarship.  The $1,000 merit-based scholarship to attend an accredited NC college, vocational or technical institution is for an NC high school senior from an NC military family who met the requirements of the application.

Created after September 11, 2001, the NCFRW Caring for America Scholarship advances the goals of the National Federation of Republican Women’s (NFRW) Caring for America program to work in communities across the nation fulfilling local needs.  The NCFRW has been affiliated with the NFRW since 1953 and is committed to helping NC military families through its Caring for America program.  NCFRW’s 44 clubs have raised more than $20,000 in scholarship funds for eligible children of NC service personnel.

The 2019 recipient of the NCFRW’s Caring for America $1,000 college scholarship is Alexis Queen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Queen of New Bern.  Alexis graduated from Early College of Eastern Applied Sciences and Technology (EAST), a partner with Craven Community College and NAV Air aboard Cherry Point Marine Air Station.  Students in this five-year program have the opportunity to graduate with a high school diploma and up to two years of college credit toward a bachelor’s degree or an associate’s degree.
