Helping Homeless Young Women Find A Future

Local non-profit TambraPlace has partnered with the renowned Design Market in Aberdeen to open “The Purple Crown,” a booth in the market where 100% of proceeds can go directly to the charity.

Fundraising Chair Cyndi Secura wanted to establish a consistent source of funding for TambraPlace and came up with the concept of The Purple Crown. The TambraPlace team then worked with Design Market to make the vision a reality.

“The owner of Design Market graciously donated a space with 100% of the proceeds going to support TambraPlace,” stated Secura. “We accept donations of furniture and household decorations for resell or for us to redo and resell.”

The mission of TambraPlace is to provide a stable environment for homeless and at-risk young women in Moore County, ages eighteen to twenty-four. They aim to assist young women with finding jobs, pursuing careers, building life skills, finances, education, and self-care.

“We provide a safe, nurturing and empowering environment to serve females who are at risk for failing without intervention, facing homelessness, transitioning from child welfare services, and potential abuse victims,” states the TambraPlace website.

The Purple Crown booth is currently stocked with art, furniture, and home décor. Pieces may be new, gently used, or upcycled and repurposed. Proceeds go directly to TambraPlace, where they are channeled into helping young women within the community.

“The Purple Crown is a wonderful addition to Design Market,” noted Design Market owner Kathryn King. “We’re more than happy to support Tambra Place.”

In addition to their market booth, TambraPlace has received two lots for building homes in the near future as generous donations. They have already obtained grants to install septic tanks for the properties and are eager to move forward.

“We have an apartment we are supporting and are opening a house donated by a local church,” Secura noted. “Things are moving along well. We still need monetary donations to build our homes so we are in full fundraising mode!”
