Join your local Pinecrest Patriots in purchasing a T-shirt in support of two high schools that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. These T-shirts will be worn at the Pinecrest Homecoming game by students and Patriot supporters on Friday, October 6th.
Local Pinecrest student Macie Kavanaugh is currently selling T-shirts to raise funds for two Texas high schools that were damaged in Hurricane Harvey. Kingwood High School and Rockport Texas High School have been dramatically impacted by the natural disaster.
Kavanaugh knew that she wanted to help hurricane victims, but it was Pinecrest Principal Robert Christina who gave her the idea of specifically helping other high schools.
“That way it’s high school helping high school,” Kavanaugh said.
Kavanaugh has been working with her Pinecrest teacher, Mrs. Kearney, who is the advisor for the Random Acts of Kindness Club. Together they are trying to sell 1,000 T-shirts for the cause.
The cross country coach and team are helping to sell the T-shirts for Homecoming. Kavanaugh’s friends Andrew Caddell and Chloe Brown have also helped sell the shirts. So far, about 350 shirts have been sold. The shirts were designed by Emily Ettrich.
The cost of the T-shirts was more than $4,000. About $2,000 has been donated to help cover that cost. Kavanaugh is currently looking for sponsors and donations to help cover the remaining expense.
Kavanaugh’s goal is to raise $10,000 for the cause. Once the T-shirts have been sold and donations are made to cover the cost of the shirts, she will have met her goal.
“It’s stressful, but it seems to be successful so far,” she said.
The shirts may be purchased at Seven Lakes EyeCare for $10 each ($12 for size 2XL).
For those who would like to make a donation, checks may be made out to “Random Acts of Kindness – Pinecrest”. They may be dropped of at Seven Lakes EyeCare.
