While stopped NC HWY 211 between West End Elementary and the log cabin, a female driver was rear-ended by a male driver. The accident occurred shortly after 3:00 PM on Friday, January 12th in West End.
Firefighter Katie Scarboro from Spring Hill Friendship Fire Department in Scotland County. Scarboro was at the scene when the wreck occurred.
“I [saw] the wreck and jumped to action,” Scarboro explained. “I jumped out of my truck and put my fire helmet on and ran to the man [to] kept him calm. Then, I assisted the lady… and kept her calm. Then I had a lady call 911, and I started directing traffic until the fire trucks and EMS got there.”
All passengers were reported to be safe from injury with the exception of the man’s right hand and wrist.
“[The man] received a citation for failure to reduce speed,” Highway Patrol Officer Haywood said.
First responders included the West End Fire Department, Moore County EMS, and Firefighter Katie Scarboro.
“I was proud to help out Moore County,” Scarboro said. “I wasn’t in my district, but I was happy to help. “I love firefighting, and [I’m] glad I got to help save another life.”
