Awards were offered for both four-year and community college programs.
The Pinecrest High School PTSA is please to announce its scholarship recipients for 2019. Seniors Emily Carlson, Danielle Richmond, Molly Sartorelli, Emily Kearney and Olivia Richards are this years award recipients.
Carlson, Richmond and Sartorelli each will each receive a $900 scholarship. Kearney and Richards will each receive $250.
“This year, we were very pleased to offer awards for students planning to attain a four-year college and for those planning to attend a community college program,” explained Pinecrest PTSA President Beth Von Cannon, “These young people all share outstanding academics, extracurricular involvement and community service focus.”
Richmond will be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and majoring in Psychology. She was a member of the winning Pinecrest Women’s soccer team for four years. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, Varsity Track, a Junior Marshall, and the Secretary of the Student Environment Association. Richmond also initiated the “Cleat Closet” as her Girl Scout Gold Award, to collect gently-used cleats to be cleaned and re-sold to raise funds for soccer players who are unable to afford ACS soccer tuition.
Carlson will be also be attending the University of North Carolin at Chapel Hill and majoring in Public Relations. She was a member of the Pinecrest Cheerleading team for four years. She was also a member of the Pinecrest Student Government, the Key Club, the National Honor Society, Junior Optimist International, Pinecrest Players Theater Group, and the Pinecrest Speech and Debate team. Carlson also was a Junior Marshall and was involved with Special Olympics.
Sartorelli will be attending North Carolina State University and majoring in Biology. She was a member of the Pinecrest Cheerleading Team for four years, and played lacrosse. She was a member of the National Honor Society and a Junior Marshall. Sartorelli was involved with Special Olympics and helped coach the special needs cheer club.
Kearney will be attending North Carolin State University and majoring in Poultry Science. She was on the Varsity Swim Team and the Bowling Team. As a member of the Future Farmers of America, she was the Regional Parliamentarian and National Delegate. She volunteers her time to feed the animals at Pinecrest before school, on the weekends, and during holidays. She plans on becoming a food animal veterinarian.
Richards will be attending Sandhills Community College to complete her Associates Degree. A multi-sport athlete, she was a member of the Cross Country Team, Lacrosse team, Bowling team, and Track team. Richards also was a member of Student Government, National Honor Society, Interact Club and the Science Olympiad Team. Richards and her teammate won first place at Science Olympiad Regional competition for their project on Protein Modeling.
