| Raleigh, N.C. – Senator Tom McInnis (R-Richmond), who represents Pinehurst in the N.C. Senate, advocated relentlessly for the deal announced today bringing major U.S. Golf Association (USGA) investments to North Carolina, along with a golf championship every five years. Sen. McInnis said, “This is a monumental day for my community. Pinehurst is a golf destination, but this permanent USGA investment plus the regular golf championships will take it to another level. I couldn’t be happier.” Sen. Brent Jackson (R-Onslow), who co-chairs the Senate Budget Committee, said, “Over the last six months, I’ve spoken every day to only a few people: my immediate family, and Tom McInnis. He really led the charge in persistently pushing this USGA recruitment, which I’ll add we were able to pay for by reallocating existing economic development funds instead of spending new money.” Sen. McInnis has been working with the USGA since earlier this year, and pitched the recruitment to everybody he could in the General Assembly and N.C. Department of Commerce. The result of Sen. McInnis’s persistence is a major USGA investment in his home district, coupled with a golf championship played in North Carolina at least every five years. The economic development will yield major benefits to North Carolina for years to come. |
